Jesse James And Sandra Bullock Divorce: She Probably Knew Of Affairs

While the Jesse James and Sandra Bullock saga is sad, it may not have been entirely unpredictable.

Jesse James, the soon-to-be ex-husband of Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock, told ABC's "Nightline" news show that his wife most likely suspected he was having affairs throughout their 5-year marriage, ABC News reported.

But, he told the show, he was able to talk his way out of it:

"I told her basically everything, that I had affairs outside of our marriage. I think she's had her suspicions in the past, but, you know. I lied, and lied my way out of it. I lied to everyone about everything, even to myself."

While his honesty (after the fact) is somewhat refreshing, most Atlanta divorce lawyers probably would advise their cheating clients against such confessions. Bad actions by one spouse often help the other spouse receive a more favorable ruling in divorce court, according to FindLaw.

However, Jesse James' therapist likely has encouraged him to confess his wayward ways as a necessary part of the recovery process. The first time he was honest with Sandra Bullock about his affairs was right after she won the Academy Award for best actress for her role in "The Blind Side."

One of the affairs allegedly took place in Atlanta, where the film was being produced.

Adding to the drama was news of the couple's adopted child, Louis, of whom Sandra Bullock wants full custody. Jesse James said he wanted to continue to co-parent the boy but acknowledged that "things have to be done in a certain way."

But as full of fireworks as this scandal has been, it seems as if the two celebrities are acting as mature and respectful as possible. After Jesse James told Sandra Bullock he was entering rehabilitation for unspecified "personal reasons," she reportedly told him "she was proud of me."
