How much child support will you be required to pay to your children? The answer varies and is based on a number of factors. However, calculating monthly child support payments in Georgia is now easier than ever before with the state's Division of Child Support Services (DCSS) downloadable child support calculator.
The latest version of the child support calculator (Version 8.4) was released on January 4, 2011 and runs through Microsoft Excel. The electronic calculators through the Excel files have built-in formulas for child support calculations. These calculations are widely used by judges, attorneys and mediators in the state.
If you don't have Microsoft Excel, that's not a problem. DCSS also reportedly provides web-based electronic calculators are other interactive tools designed to calculate a parent's child support obligation under the Georgia Child Support Guidelines. Once the amount of child support is determined by a calculator or other worksheet, the parent will have the option of submitting the calculation to a judge directly or electronically. More information about the state's child support laws and guidelines can be found through www.GeorgiaCourts.gov.
Remember, each state has its own formulas for calculating child support. According to FindLaw, most U.S. states will consider a number of factors that include the financial needs of the child, the income of both the custodial and non-custodial parent, and the child's standard of living before any divorce or legal separation. Any parent who is not satisfied with a child support order that is already in place, can seek child support modification in court.
